april provides three forms of downside protection for clients who file on the platform: Refund Protection, Penalty & Interest Protection, and Audit Assistance. Each covers a different situation and has its own conditions, described below.
What's Refund Protection?
If your client finds a tax preparation error that results in a larger refund or smaller liability, april refunds the service fees and lets your client amend their return at no additional charge.
Note: Refund Protection excludes errors caused by inaccurate information your client provided, unclaimed deductions or credits, positions contrary to law, or changes in tax law.
What's Penalty & Interest Protection?
If april's software makes a mathematical error that causes your client to pay a penalty or interest to the IRS that they otherwise wouldn't owe, april reimburses your client up to a maximum of $10,000.
What's Audit Assistance?
If your client receives an IRS or state audit letter for an accepted return filed through april, april provides informational assistance, such as FAQs and links to relevant tax authority resources.
