What communications are going out to my clients?

Explains which tax-season communications your team sends versus april, including retargeting and transactional emails, timing, volume, and brand customization options.

Tax-season messaging has three layers. Your team owns awareness at the top of the funnel. Once a client logs in and begins filing, april takes over retargeting and essential transactional communications, with the option to send april-led messages under your brand.

💡 The handoff happens when a client logs in. Before login, your team drives awareness. After login, april runs lifecycle engagement based on the client's progress.

What awareness campaigns does my team send?

Your team runs awareness campaigns to the broader client base before clients decide where to file. Campaigns can run from fall through April across email, push, and in-app placements.

Recommended advisor touchpoints include an initial email, a follow-up email or text, and a reminder during client meetings. You'll find ready-to-use messaging for each touchpoint in this resource center.

What retargeting emails does april send after a client signs up?

Once a client signs up, april deploys automated campaigns to move the filer from sign-up, through working with the Tax Team, to a signed return. These emails are triggered when the filer stalls at a specific step and to notify them about the status of their return.

What's sent during Stage 1: Getting started?

Emails include a Welcome email, as well as reminders to complete onboarding and upload documents.

What's sent during Stage 2: Return preparation?

Emails include return status updates and notifications to the client when their Tax Pro has additional questions or needs additional documents.

What's sent during Stage 3: Review and file?

Emails include return status updates and reminders to the client to log back in and sign their return when it's ready to be submitted.

Note: Across all lifecycle stages, a filer may receive anywhere from 3–10+ emails. Because most campaigns are triggered by a client stalling in the product or needing to take additional action, clients who progress promptly receive very few messages.

What transactional emails does april send?

Transactional messages provide essential information a client needs to complete filing. These include:

  • Return status updates

  • Filing deadline reminders

  • Document-upload reminders

  • Extension notices and recommended extension-payment outreach

  • Service-related messages

Clients receive approximately five transactional emails during the January–April filing period, depending on their status and needs.

Can april-led emails use our brand?

Yes. Retargeting and transactional emails can be customized so clients see your brand throughout the experience, while clearly disclosing that april provides the tax filing service.

Customization includes:

  • Primary and secondary colors matching your brand palette

  • Your logo in the email footer

  • A preferred sender name, such as "{{Partner}} via april"

  • A branded header and banner naming your organization

  • Required disclosure that tax filing services are provided by april and that april isn't affiliated with the partner

📣 Example disclosure: "Tax filing services are provided by April. April is not affiliated with {{Partner}}."
